Chestnut is a deep, roasted brown with a strong red heart running through it. In some areas it leans towards rich mahogany; in others it glows with warm cinnamon and toasted amber undertones. The tonal shifts through the skeins give it a natural, wood-grain quality — like polished timber catching the light.
There’s a richness here that feels earthy and grounded, yet it never reads flat. The darker sections add depth and shadow, while the warmer flashes bring warmth and movement. It’s the colour of burnished bark, cracked chestnut shells, and slow autumn afternoons.
Chestnut works effortlessly with soft neutrals, smoky blues, olive greens and muted pinks. Used alone, it creates a garment with strength and presence; paired, it anchors brighter shades and gives them something steady to lean against.
A full-bodied brown with warmth, character and quiet confidence.
One of a kind and not repeated.
Weight & Length
4 ply, sock or fingering yarn. 100 gms gives you 400 metres
Fibre
Darjeeling yarn: 80% Merino, 20% Nylon
Beautifully soft and just the right amount of nylon for a pair of socks. This also makes a gorgeous shawl or other wearable object.
It is recommended that you hand wash in cool to lukewarm water with a wool wash to prevent dissociating. Slight bleeding may occur but should not affect the final colour. The merino is superwash but the dye's not. (However, I'm not hand washing my socks so there!)
