New Red - merino/possom - 4 ply - Kawa Kawa

New Red is a richly saturated colour that sits somewhere between deep crimson and a moody garnet. In this photo, the hue shows off its complexity: a base of intense red layered with cooler, darker undertones that veer toward plum and oxblood. There’s a smooth tonal variation throughout, with subtle shifts from glowing, almost ruby reds through to areas that are shadowed with a soft brown-black.

It’s not a flashy red—there’s no brightness or cherry in sight. Instead, this is a red that’s grounded and earthy, with a sense of depth and quiet strength. The silk content of the yarn (as visible in the photo) adds a low, elegant sheen, which enhances the dimensionality of the dye work. In natural light, New Red leans warm and sophisticated, while in lower light it can appear darker and more mysterious, with hints of mahogany and wine.

Yarn Information

This yarn has an overall softness with no sheen. It almost looks like an 5ply and so has a lot of loft and therefore a slight halo. Worked carefully this will make a beautiful shawl or garment. 

Recently I've been using the 8 ply version to knit a sweater for my husband and have been thrilled to find it really doesn't pill at all! Such a great yarn!
